What I'm doing in Blender lately
Currently working on how to use Blender to make the sort of animated illustrations I would have probably made in Adobe After Effects back in the pre-subscription days. So far, I've got this one animation of the moon rising that I did back in September: Basically just a few planes bearing isolated elements that I slid around, plus a bit of parenting vertices to empties to animate tree branches. Currently learning how to use armature skeletons on an illustration of a bird creature, still need to figure out weight painting and key poses and stuff like that. My end goal may or may not be something akin to those music/lyric videos for Of Monsters and Men (if you know, you know).
The Thing with the Ceratosaurus
In september of 2022, back when I still infrequently followed various #paleontology related accounts on Twitter. Quite a few of them were paleo-artists, or those who would typically retweet such artwork. I remember a bunch of artists posting sketches and polished drawings of the theropod Ceratosaurus that all seemed to be in reference or response to something. Not long later, I find the inciting twitter post: an A.I. generated "illustration" of what was apparently supposed to be a Ceratosaurus stalking through a forest. Just for reference, the name "Ceratosaurus" is derived from greek and translates to "horned reptile" in reference to the bony crests that adorned its skull (as seen in the image from Wikipedia below) Various paleo-artists and paleo-enthusiasts really clowned on the A.I. generated image, and honestly I understand. I mean, just look at it, look at its warped anatomy and lack of proper cranial horns! Can good photocomposites exit? Yes, but this wasn't exactly one of

Downloaded TikTok a couple years ago. Didn't care for most of the reasons people liked it, but some of my favorite science Youtubers had stuff on it, and some of my least favorite human beings decried it, so I was curious. Had no interest of putting stuff on there. Happy just being a passive viewer. However, I've been doing short animations and time-lapse videos to post on YouTube and my Instagram art account. Come 2022, and here I am thinking "why not post them there as well?" So I changed my account name to include "McTalon" (cause why not? Old cringe site name on the new cringe site :) ) and did just that. Kinda feels like I'm slowly sliding deeper into something insidious... Crud.
